Do people take GW too seriously?
I sometimes think people forget GW is only a game. I play it to relax and relieve the stress of real life situations. I can't believe that I am the only one who feels this way. Any comments would be appreciated.

What are you talking about?
Is this a general observation, or based on something specific?

Then don't believe it. Of course its obvious that people forget, most players could tell you that.

What is so worrying about my statement? I think it is an honest question to ask.

This is a really, really vague thread about an extremely vague and broad observation. It may be an honest question, but so is "Hey, is the sky blue?"

The way Guild Wars is made makes it extremely easy to get addicted, take it way too serious and spend hours on end playing it..
However there are plenty of players who are seriously easy going about it, most of which will not be registered on this forum, as being on a forum such as this one, takes a certain amount of dedication to the game (whether you're actively posting or not).
But you can also just blame it on human nature. Some people spend hours on end to complete the expert level of minesweeper within 38 seconds.
Blame whatever creator you believe in. Blame (d)evolution. And, of course, blame society

Thank you for an honest answer to an honest question.

The way Guild Wars is made makes it extremely easy to get addicted...
WTF?
Are you kidding me?
This game is not an addicting game as it:
1) Has a lvl20 cap making you not have to spend months and months to get to lvl100.
2) Has a weapon and armor cap, making you not have to spend months and months to get the best armor and weapons.
3) Has a closed storyline, making the story actually end after 1-2 months of playing.
After you have reached lvl20, got max armor and weapons, and have finished the campaigns, the only thing to do is stick to pvp.
How is that addictive?

people take life too seriously.... thats why they get hooked into the game... its escapism. so whats your point? go to a trekkie seminar if you want to see :
'taken too seriously'
what makes players too serious about this game? the fact that we like to discuss the facets of the game while we go about our extremely boring jobs on a fansite????

with every game there are those who take it too seriously and then there are those who play for fun or relaxation. there really isn't a point in stating the fact that people take it to seriously. To some its just like watching tv only instead they get to interact with others instead of just watching something stupid and pointless on tv.

Yes, I take GW a little seriously. But I also make sure fun is my main concern. I enjoy playing games... gaming is a hobby of mine, and I don't think taking a hobby a little seriously is too weird of a thing.

Hey, it's just a game.
The initial shock of realising that, sometime, you're gonna have to abandon GW, even if only to play GW2, hurts. But after you get over it, it's OK.

Hi, welcome to a magical world I like to call pvp, where people try to achieve magical tasks like summoning wolves, tigers, and phoenixes, not to mention magical things called titles. There's plenty of grind to this game.
Not to mention that PvP is really the only interesting thing worth doing once you're done with the game

Sitting in his nowhere land,
making all his nowhere plans,
